The Travertines of Pamukkale are located in the northern part of Denizli, Turkey. In Turkish, Pamukkale translates to “cotton castle”. The naming came from the cotton-like aspect of its brilliant white multi-layered terraces, formed by thousands of years of calcium carbonate depositing from thermal water. Already famous in Antiquity, Pamukkale remained a well-known thermal spring resort across the centuries.
