Temple of Literature
First built in 1070 by Emperor Lý Thánh Tông, the Temple received an important addition few years later, in 1076. The freshly built Imperial Academy, Vietnam’s first university, allowed for the centuries to come royal heirs, nobles, and Vietnamese elites to be educated within the Temple’s walls. Divided into five inner courtyards, the Temple of Literature is today one of the most visited monuments of Hanoi.
