The coastal temple of Tanah Lot is a Hindu temple located on an offshore rock off the south coast of Bali, Indonesia. It is believed that Tanah Lot was built in the 16th century by a Hindu traveler who had come to Indonesia on a shipwreck. The temple was originally erected atop a coral reef, and its waters were believed to be especially sacred. Today, it is not only one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bali, but it also remained a holy place where people go to pray for good fortune, peace, and harmony.
