St. Joseph's Oratory is one of the most outstanding Canadian basilicas and a site of genuine serenity that lies in Montreal's heart. It was founded by Brother Andre in 1904 and is dedicated to St. Joseph and his healing powers, once believed to help the ill and the disabled. Standing 129 meters high, the size of the building is also quite impressive. Today, pilgrims and tourists head to the basilica to see this national shrine and visit its outdoor Garden of the Way of the Cross, acting as a splendid oasis outside of the busy city life.
