Sigiriya Fortress

Sigiriya is an ancient fortress sitting 180 meters high on a massive rock. First built by King Kashyapa in the fifth century, then abandoned and buried in the jungle for centuries, the western world did not discover the wonder until the mid-19th century. The fortress was home to a vast collection of frescoes, that were unfortunately mostly lost to time and to a regrettable vandalism incident in 1967.
