Founded in 1952, the park was entitled Queen Elizabeth National Park in 1954 in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Uganda. The park devotes its area to protect wildlife in the Western Region of Uganda and is part of a Lion Conservation Unit in Central Africa.
