Built in 1234, The Pont d'Avignon, or Pont Saint-Bénézet is a famous medieval bridge located in Avignon, in southern France. The current version was made out of stone in 1234 to replace the previous wooden bridge after destruction. It was 900 meters long, 5 meters large, and comprised of 22 stone arches. Unfortunately, the bridge was extensively damaged by several floods of the Rhône river, from which only the gatehouse and four arches survived. It is famous in French culture thanks to the song "Sur le Pont d'Avignon".
