One of the most famous American monuments, the Lincoln Memorial, was built between 1914 and 1922 in honor of the 16th American president Abraham Lincoln. Made as a neoclassical Greek temple, it was designed by Henry Bacon as the last work of his life, while Daniel Chester French designed the renowned 159 tons statue of Lincoln out of Georgia white marble.
