Freed from the ice 16 000 years ago, the Lake Brienz was then one with the lake Thoune, before being separated by the alluvium of Lütschine river, thus forming the plain of Interlaken. Located in the Canton of Berne, Switzerland, the lake has an average depth of 170 meters, though once affected by an intensive dump of munitions from WWII.
