Built by architect Giovanni Battista Vaccarini between 1735 and 1737 on the Piazza del Duomo, La Fontana dell'Elefante is an iconic monument in Catania, Sicily, Italy. The basalt statue represents an elephant, called "u Liotru," carrying an obelisk on its back and standing in the fountain's center.
