Bridge of Sighs
Amongst the many artistic and cultural landmarks in Venice, the Bridge of Sighs is one of the most popular. Antonio Contin made la Ponte Dei Sospiri, as it is called elegantly in Italian, in the 16th century. The name “Bridge of Sighs” is attributed to the "sigh of despair and depression", originating from the Venetian prisoners that used to sigh when seeing the outside world for the last time before being taken to their cells. It is perhaps the biggest tourist attraction in Venice, and a myth says that when a couple crosses the Bridge of Sighs, their love will last forever.
