The Alexanderplatz is a large public square in Berlin, Germany. Originally named "Königs Thor Platz", the square was renamed "Alexanderplatz" in honor of Emperor Alexander I of Russia after he visited the city in 1805. Unfortunately, World War II bombings and heavy fighting mostly destroyed the area around the square, forcing the later reconstruction that gave it its current modern look.
