Founded in the 8th century by the monk Saint Othmar in a Carolingian style, the Abbey of Saint Gall is a Benedictine Abbey located in the city of St Gall, Switzerland. Renowned the richest in the world, the Saint Gall library is composed of over 160 000 books, including 2200 wrote by hand and 500 others dating back 1000 years.
