The mysteries around the Great Sphinx of Giza made it one of Egypt's most famous landmark place. The monument still holds many secrets, like one "adage" claiming that lost loots could be buried under it. Egyptian rulers worshiped the sphinx as an aspect of the sun and named it Hor Em Akhet, meaning Horus' horizon. Oriented east, it is aligned with the rising sun in the morning. The alleged damage to the face and head of the Great Sphinx led to the hypothesis that it could have lived during a time of extensive rainfall that shook the region as early as 6000 BC.
