Bryggen is a row of colorful, well-preserved buildings in Bergen. It is the best-known part of the city and a major tourist attraction. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was initially built in the early 12th century to combine port facilities and a trade center for Bergen's merchants. However, the current buildings were rebuilt in the 18th century after a fire destroyed the older ones.
